Kumasi Polytechnic has reviewed it's 2009 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Apostle Dr Safo Kantanka's "Suaye Technoloy Centre", an automobile company to ensure proper collaboration between the two institutions. A MoU to offer collaboration the two was signed in 2009 and was to be reviewed every five years but has failed its implementation. At a familiarisation visit to the centre at Mpota near Winneba in the Central Region, the Heads of Department, Industrial Attachment Coordinators from the faculty of Engineering to pay a courtesy call on Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Prof Nsowah-Nuamah recalled that the MoU which was signed in 2009 has not been operationalised and that with the coming into force government's transformation of polytechnics to technical universities competency-based programmes would upheld. He said some of these competency-based programmes were found at the centre and that having noted the great works of Apostle, the need to strengthen collaboration. He said as part of the MoU, students from the polytechnic would be taking practical attachment while some lecturers at the same polytechnic would be allowed to take internship at the centre to get a feel of practical works.
He indicated that technical university policy demands that each department of the institution has an industrial experience. He express belief that technology was a tool that drives the economy and that called on the centre to be much interested in its documentation and certificate matters. He however, called on government to help pump more money into the technology sector to allow a number of Ghanaian engineering students to broaden their horizon.
Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka
Apostle Safo Kantanka who was mad with joy about the familiarisation visit encouraged the team from the polytechnic to maintain the bond between the two institutions. He said "black" does not mean, black mentality and that he was grateful to the Almighty God for granting him the mentality in the area of technology when he has been able to produce vehicles, televisions, fans and other electrical equipment in Ghana in Africa.
He said being branded as "The Star of Africa", with lots of support he would take Ghana to a higher pedestal before "his creator would call him to rest". Ha called for more collaboration fro other institutions to all help build the technological future of Ghana and Africa.
The Visit
The Kumasi Polytechnic team visited the Electrical, Electronics, Pattern Making, Spraying, Wielding, Foundry and Architecture Departments at the centre.
