The Kristo Asafo Mission on Sunday, December 29, 2019 held its annual technological, agricultural exhibition at the Apostle Safo School of Arts and Sciences at Awoshie in Accra.

The exhibition of food produce, demonstration of two vehicles and a durbar which marked the 39th edition since the inception of the annual exhibition by the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo church, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo, witnessed the unveiling of a newly manufactured special armoured personnel carrier vehicle and a 40-footer luxury vehicle molded in the shape of a wingless plane.

The durbar attracted people from all walks of life among who were the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Obed Akwa, the Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII and the Akwamuhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, who was special guest.

It was on the theme: “Enhancing sustainable technology, organic agriculture and culture; The pathway to development.”

Technology
The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who outdoored the new vehicles said technology was key to development and therefore the African and for that matter the black man could lead the technological development in Africa and in the world.

He said such a vision by Apostle Dr Safo was in line with the vision shared by the government to prepare the minds of the country’s youth for the world of work through the government’s Ghana Beyond Aid agenda which he said could not be achieved without technology.

To that end, Vice-President Bawumia said to focus on technology meant government must focus on the areas of education that also enhance technology.

He said the government has paid a lot of attention to education culminating in the introduction of the free SHS policy which he indicated would serve as a building block for technological education in the country.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kantanka Automobile Company, Kwadwo Safo Jnr, has explained why his father, Apostle Dr Ing. Kwadwo Safo, built the aeroplane-like vehicle.

According to him, his father had always been the type that would always want to be the first to invent something unique into the world.

“The main focus of my father is to always do something that has never been done before by anyone. He believes in uniqueness and that was his focus in creating the airplane car,” he noted.

He added that the airplane car will be available on order.

“It’s a prototype and you know we have a lot of people in the world that would want to do something crazy. Someone might want to ride in something like this and so it’s going to be available only on order basis,” he told Joy News.

According the CEO, the airplane car cost around GH¢ 100,000.00 to produce.

Despite its hugeness, he said the airplane car can be used to ply roads in the country.

“Like any other vehicle, this car can be used on our roads. We have trailers, tankers and limousines plying our roads and looking at the length and breadth of the vehicle, it can be used on our roads,” he noted.

Govt will help Apostle Safo license, patent three inventions — Prof. Frimpong-Boateng

The government says it will assist Apostle Kwadwo Safo, the Founder and Leader of the Christ Reformed Church (Kristo Asafo Mission), to complete the licensing, intellectual property, trade secrecy and patenting registration of three of his agro-input inventions.

The inventions are organic fertiliser, a pesticide and a weedicide which are not harmful to both humans and animals.

Apostle Safo plans to build a production facility in Agogo in the Ashanti Region to produce the products in commercial quantities which will be cheaper for uptake.

The support forms part of a partnership the government is offering to Apostle Safo to make his innovations a win-win for him and the state.

To firm up the partnership, a two-member government delegation, made up of the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, and a Special Advisor at the ministry, Mr Oliver Boakye, paid a familiarisation visit to Kristo Asafo’s innovation hubs at Gomoa Odambo and Mpota in the Central Region.

The minister explained that it was a top priority of the government to support and commercialise the inventions, especially the agro inputs, to enable the country to address pest and disease challenges in the agricultural sector.

He said the commercial production of Apostle Safo’s agro-product inventions would help reduce the importation of agro chemicals and relieve the stress on the nation’s foreign exchange.

Feat lauded

The team found out that the biodiversity-friendly fertiliser had a fertility lifespan of six years, while the pesticide aided pollination, apart from ridding livestock and plants of pests.

The weedicide also kills unwanted plants by halting photosynthesis within 11 hours of its application.

“If we want to live fruitful lives, we need to urgently develop our local capacity and expand the agricultural sector to meet the basic necessity of life — cheaply feeding ourselves.

“I have never seen any country that has survived and developed without the ability of its people using local means to ensure food security and defending themselves. Overall, we need to appreciate and eat what we grow,” Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said.

He praised Apostle Safo for showing the way by turning virtual grasslands in parts of the Gomoa area into a tropical forest, with tree species that were both medicinal and could be used as timber.

The forest, the minister said, was home to all manner of animal and tree species which were facing extinction in “our part of the world”.

Response

Apostle Safo, for his part, welcomed the government’s support and said he was ready for the partnership to contribute to the country’s development, especially to actualise the Ghana Beyond Aid policy.

He said there were many innovations in the offing to address some social challenges, including poor sanitation and waste disposal.

“I have the knowledge and expertise to address and develop technologies you can think of,” he stated.

“I have done many, such as weeding and sweeping implements, but they were not taken seriously.

I am willing to even enhance those technologies if only the government will support their uptake,” Apostle Safo said.

Zidor honours Apostle Safo Kantanka

The exploits of philanthropist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Church, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, is what has motivated up-and-coming artiste Zidor to record a single in his honour titled Safo Kantanka.

In the song, Zidor extols the virtues of the man who has numerous inventions to his credit including televisions, farm ploughs, automobiles as well as other industrial machines.

Zidor, known for songs such as Adjovi, Pay 4 Me, True Love, Na Aden, Free Bonto, also questions why the country continues to import stuff from various countries instead of relying on Safo Kantanka to provide them because he is capable.

For someone who is still an up-and-coming artiste, he manages to give a good account of himself on the track with very impressive lyrics and lines.

Speaking with Graphic Showbiz on Friday, Zidor, born John Kweku Zidor, said although he is not a member of the Kristo Asafo Church, he felt the need to record a song about Safo Kantanka due to the amazing works he sees him doing.

“We all have to support our own and rally support behind Apostle Kwadwo Safo. He has so much to offer Ghanaians,” he said.
